If you’re planning to travel to Italy and want to see the best of the Italian coastline, few places can match the beauty of the Amalfi Coast. With its colorful cliffside towns, turquoise waters, and world-class food, it’s no wonder travelers dream of visiting Positano, Amalfi, and nearby gems.
We stayed in Naples, famous for its rich history and mouthwatering pizza, and decided to take a one-day trip to the Amalfi Coast. Here’s how our itinerary went — perfect if you want to see both Amalfi and Positano in just one day.
Morning: Naples to Amalfi Coast
We started at 7:00 AM, catching a train from Napoli Centrale Garibaldi to Salerno (about 40 minutes). At 8:00 AM, we boarded the ferry to Amalfi. The ride itself was a highlight — the dramatic cliffs and small fishing villages along the Italian coastline were breathtaking.
By 9:00 AM, we arrived in Amalfi and headed straight to Pasticceria Andrea Pansa for an authentic Italian breakfast — a flaky sfogliatella paired with a creamy cappuccino.
We explored the charming streets, visited the Duomo di Amalfi with its striped façade, and wandered along the waterfront promenade. Amalfi’s mix of history, coastal charm, and vibrant culture makes it unforgettable.
Afternoon: Exploring Positano
At 2:00 PM, we took a boat to Positano. Approaching by sea was magical — the pastel-colored houses seemed to cascade down the cliffs like a painting.
We enjoyed a leisurely seaside lunch of fresh seafood pasta and chilled white wine, followed by Positano’s famous lemon ice cream while walking along the beach. The town’s boutique shops, linen stores, and art galleries made the afternoon stroll even more special.
Evening: Returning to Naples
By 6:00 PM, we boarded the ferry back to Salerno and caught the train to Naples. Ending the day with a classic Margherita pizza in its birthplace felt like the perfect conclusion to our coastal adventure.
This itinerary offers a snapshot of the Amalfi Coast — perfect for travelers short on time but eager to experience the charm of Amalfi and Positano in a single day. It’s an Italian journey filled with sun, sea, and unforgettable flavors.
