The best time to visit the UAE is from October to April. Days are mild, nights are cool, and outdoor plans finally make sense. If you have already done the malls and the big landmarks, this winter is the time to try something different. Here are the top hidden gems in the UAE, from desert lakes in Dubai to hilltop forts in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dubai: Hidden Gems Beyond the Skyline

Al Qudra Lakes and Love Lake. A short drive from the city, these lakes sit in the desert and are popular for cycling, picnics, birdwatching and sunset photos. Go on a weekday morning to avoid weekend crowds.

Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood. Dubai's old quarter has wind-tower houses, small art galleries, museums and cafés. Winter evenings are the best time to walk through it.

Hatta. Head inland to the Hajar Mountains for hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. Cooler winter weather makes Hatta one of the best things to do near Dubai if you want to get out of the city.

Abu Dhabi: Quiet Spots Worth the Trip

Jubail Mangrove Park. Walk along a boardwalk through the mangroves. It is calm, easy to do with kids and a nice break from the city.

Qasr Al Hosn and the House of Artisans. Qasr Al Hosn is the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi. The House of Artisans inside focuses on traditional Emirati crafts, so you can see how they are made and learn about local heritage.

Qasr Al Watan. This palace is open to visitors and is worth a visit for the halls, the design and the gardens. Cooler months make the walk between buildings far more comfortable.

Ras Al Khaimah: Mountains, Forts and Old Villages

Dhayah Fort. One of the most important historical sites in Ras Al Khaimah. Climb up to the fort for views over the surrounding area.

Wadi Naqab and Jabal Al Mabrah. Both are good for hiking and scenic drives in the Hajar Mountains. Start early, bring water and wear proper shoes.

Jazirat Al Hamra. This old coastal village is now mostly empty, and walking through it is a quiet, interesting stop for photos and history.

Bassata Desert Village. A good option if you want a desert stay without driving far from the city.

Al Ain: The Garden City

Al Ain Oasis. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. Walk through shaded palm groves and see the traditional irrigation system. Winter is the best season to do it.

Jebel Hafeet. Drive up the mountain road for city views, cooler air and a good sunset. It is also a popular spot for camping and caravans.

Al Ain Palace Museum. A short visit that adds local history to your day. For families, Al Ain Zoo is also a good winter stop.

Quick Tips for Winter Travel in the UAE
  • Book early for peak dates. December and January fill up fast, especially around National Day and New Year.

  • Bring layers. Evenings in Hatta, Jebel Hafeet and the mountains can feel cold.

  • Check the weather. Winter rain can close wadis and mountain roads, so look at the forecast before you go.

  • Rent a car. Distances between emirates are short, and most hidden gems are easier to reach by car.

  • Check event dates. Winter festivals and markets change every year, so confirm dates before you plan around them.
