How To Travel to Europe on a Budget with a Filipino passport

European summer = Best birthday ever!

Save this for future 🫶🏼

Here’s how I did it 👇🏼

Philippine passport first time traveling to Schengen countries from Dubai

1. Secure your appointment first. Go to VFS Global Greece website and book the appointment that suits you.
2. Greece approves and grants Schengen visa the fastest. I got mine only after 2 days.
3. First time applicants usually get Single Entry, but I got a Multiple Entry for 90 days, probably because I had a Romanian visa in March 2023, though Romania is NOT part of Schengen

After securing the Visa appointment:
1. Book your flights with WIZZ AIR Abu Dhabi to Athens
2. Then check RyanAir flights between Europe and create your itinerary based on the cheapest flights

Here’s the breakdown of my flights:
16 July - AUH to ATH - AED 293 (USD 80) (WizzAir)
18 July - ATH to MALTA - AED 180.75 (USD 49.21) (RyanAir)
20 July - MALTA to VENICE - AED 89.33 (USD 24.32) (RyanAir)
22 July - VENICE to SANTORINI - AED 245 (USD 66.70) (WizzAir)
24 July - SANTORINI to ABU DHABI - AED 270 (USD 73.51) (WizzAir)

I am a backpacker so I just brought my 30liter Quechua bag. I didn’t pay for any extra baggage.

Also, with Ryan Air and WizzAir it is important to check in online before your flight. Otherwise, they will charge you extra if you check in via the counter. They are budget airlines, don’t ask why they charge extra stuff.

TOTAL AED 1,078 (or USD 293.5)

Other requirements for Schengen visa:
- NOC from your sponsor/employer
- Trade license of your company
- Bank statement with stamp (3mos or 6mos)
- Hotel bookings (all countries you’re visiting)
- Schengen travel insurance
- Passport photo
- Passport and residence/work visa
- Detailed itinerary (all countries you’re visiting)

Schengen visa = AED 480

Total expenses for 10 days, 3 countries, 5 flights including food, visa fee, tours, accommodation = AED 4,600
